The Little-Known History of Avondale

Ink Factory Studio and Protokulture, esteemed art and design studios, collaborated to commission us to create an Augmented Reality enabled painted mural that would engage and captivate the local community. Seeking a unique approach to public art, they wanted the mural to come to life with an interactive experience that focused on the history of the Avondale neighborhood in Chicago. We had a few important goals for this project.

Enhance the traditional mural with an interactive layer of augmented reality.

Provide a brief history of Avondale through interactivity and engagment.

Create an engaging and interactive experience that appeals to both residents and visitors.

Promote the Avondale neighborhood and its vibrant community.

Foster a sense of community pride and engagement through public art.

We utilized the VPS (Virtual Positioning System) tools provided by 8thwall.com, a leading AR development platform. This technology enables the alignment of virtual content with the physical mural, allowing users to interact with the augmented elements seamlessly. The content was designed to respond to user interactions and create an engaging narrative about the history of Avondale.
